Allan Alaalatoa

Wallaby Allan Alaalatoa ‘ready to go’ against South Africa

The tighthead prop missed the Brumbies’ Super Rugby Pacific semi-final loss to the Chiefs last month with a calf injury but the 29-year-old said there were no lingering issues ahead of the Test on Saturday (local time).

The match will be the first under returning Wallabies coach Eddie Jones.

“It’s going really well; I’m in a good place at the moment,” Alaalatoa said from their training base in Johannesburg.

“I’ve come into camp last week and I’ve done all the training so I’ve been ticking all the boxes and if selected I’ll be ready to go on the weekend.”

Brumbies captain Alaalatoa set to miss top of the table clash after copping ban for dangerous high shot

Alaalatoa was sent off just before halftime in the Brumbies’ thrilling win over Melbourne on Saturday night for a clumsy shot on Pone Fa’amausili, which left the Rebels prop concussed.

Alaalatoa pleaded guilty to the dangerous-tackle charge, with the SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee taking into account his clean record and reducing the sanction.

Alaalatoa takes over Brumbies captaincy

Alaalatoa will take the reins from Sam Carter and Christian Lealiifano, who both moved overseas at the end of the 2019 season.

The 24-year-old was widely considered to be one of the frontrunners for the position, having been a mainstay of the leadership group in recent seasons and one of the most consistent on-field performers.

Alaalatoa has set a strong example away from rugby as well, with his work pursuing a criminology degree and his on-field form earning him the 2019 RUPA Medal for Excellence.

Robertson replaces Alaalatoa

Alaalatoa was in the side to face Ireland at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane Saturday, however, the Brumbies prop succumbed to a knock to his ankle sustained during training Thursday.

Australia have now added Robertson to the bench in response to the 24-year-old's injury, it was announced Friday.

Waratahs prop Robertson has not featured for the Wallabies since last year's clash with England at Twickenham in November.
