Samoa’s Maliko receives 7s player of the final award in Cape Town

This was after the Brian Lima coached side defeated New Zealand 12-7 in the cup final to win the tournament.

The co-captain said he is grateful for the support towards the team.

“First of all, we give thanks back to our heavenly father for giving us the strength and secondly to thank our supporters our families and all Samoans back at home.”

The team ended their 6-year drought after winning the competition.  

     

Black Ferns Sevens thump Australia in Cape Town final

New Zealand have romped to a 31-14 win over Australia in the final at the Cape Town round of the series.

The result avenged the Black Ferns loss to their trans-Tasman rivals at the opening round in Dubai and brings the teams level at the top of the standings.

The New Zealand men's side couldn't quite match their female counterparts after being edged 12-7 by Samoa in a Cup final played in challenging conditions.

Samoa wins Cape Town 7s

The team defeated New Zealand 12-7 in the main final.

Samoa created an upset in the semifinals after defeating the host nation, South Africa 10-7 with a winning penalty kick from Faafoi Falaniko in the extra time.

This is after they defeated Argentina 21-10 in the quarterfinals yesterday.

The Brian Lima coached side kick started their campaign with 21-10 win against Uruguay at the tournament.

This was before they defeated Japan 45-0 in their second pool game and lost to Ireland 14-21 in their final pool game.

     

Manu Samoa to face Uruguay in their Cape Town 7s opener

The game is scheduled for 2.06pm (Samoa Time).

Samoa will then play against Japan in their second game tomorrow before they take on Ireland on Sunday, 11 December.

The Brian Lima coached side is currently ranked 9th place in the overall standings of the World Rugby Sevens Series.

On the women's side, Fiji will play New Zealand, Great Britain and Brazil in pool play.

The tournament - leg three of 10 tournaments - consists of 16 men's and 12 women's teams.

     

Fiji and Samoa in same Cape Town 7s pool

Fiji lost in the semi-finals of the World Series opener in Dubai over the weekend to eventual winners South Africa and then lost the third/fourth playoff to England 28-21 while Samoa finished in sixth place losing in the fifth place final to Australia 22-17.

Canada and Wales complete the Pacific teams' pool.

New Zealand and Australia are also drawn together, alongside Spain and the USA.

Samoa squad for Dubai, Cape Town 7s named

7s veterans Fautua Otto, Tom Iosefo and Falemiga Selesele have been named in the squad.

Samoa has been drawn with New Zealand, Argentina and USA.

The Dubai 7s will be held from the 1st to the 3rd of next month.
