Charter flight brings in workers from China for projects in Samoa

The flight arrived with 198 people in the country last Thursday.

On board were workers for the construction of the Chinese new embassy, Arts and Culture Centre Malifa – Friendship Park, TA Sports Centre, Police academy and Apia Port Safety Project.

There were also 49 businessmen from the private sector returning home.

Other travelers were 8 members of a medical team, 8 forensic pathologists, a member of the diplomatic staff of the embassy and a World Health Organisation staff.

Samoan airline helps ferry Kiribati MPs to parliament

Before the Covid-19 lockdown, Talofa Airways was flying between Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga.

According to the Samoa Observer newspaper, the Clerk of the Kiribati Parliament confirmed the chartered Talofa Airways plane had left Apia on Monday.

It was due to make at least four stops to pick up several MPs before Parliament sat.

Meanwhile 207 Kiribati citizens registered with their government as being stranded overseas and in need of repatriation.

They were registered in Fiji, Solomon Islands, Marshall Islands, USA, New Zealand and Taiwan.

Confidence Warriors will fly out on Sunday

The Auckland club hopes that final clearance will be given today to head across the Tasman to start preparing for the return of the National Rugby League (NRL).

The club is organising a charter flight for its 32 players and 18 staff to depart Auckland on Sunday.

The Australian government and state officials will hold meetings today to discuss frameworks around the return to sport at all levels and how they may implement that.
