Chelsea

Stalemate at Stamford Bridge

The home side carved out the best chances but United, who had a decent first-half penalty appeal turned down, defended solidly throughout to earn a point.

Chelsea remain in fifth spot with 44 points from 26 games, one point behind West Ham United, while Manchester United are second with 50 points from 26 games, 12 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool ended a run of four successive Premier League defeats and scored their 7,000th top-flight goal during a 2-nil victory at Sheffield United that moves them within two points of a Champions League place.

Chelsea secure a win

German striker Timo Werner finally ended his three-month long goal drought in the league, scoring the second of the game from a corner.

Meanwhile high-flying West Ham continued their impressive run of form with a 3-0 win over last-placed Sheffield United, taking the Hammers into fifth-place in the table.

Chelsea and West Ham have both jumped above Liverpool, who've slipped to sixth.

Frank Lampard sacked as Chelsea manager after just 18 months

Chelsea has lost five of its last eight Premier League games and dropped to ninth place, despite Lampard benefiting from nearly $300 million spent on new players for this season.

Chelsea said the performances had “not met expectations" and left the team "without any clear path to sustained improvement” – making a change of managers necessary with former Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel set to be hired.

Reflecting Lampard's standing at the west London club, the firing after 18 months in the post was announced in a rare statement by owner Roman Abramovich.

Manchester City surge to 3-1 win over Chelsea in Premier League

İlkay Gündoğan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne scored in a devastating 16-minute first-half spell as City rose to fifth in the standings despite coronavirus cases depleting the squad.

Chelsea is only three points behind City but has played two games more and the manner of this defeat will be alarming to notoriously impatient owner Roman Abramovich.

The absence of any crowd due to coronavirus restrictions spared Lampard from any negativity from his own fans at least.

Gunners beat rivals Chelsea

Arsenal had failed to win any of their previous seven league games - losing five of them - and the win lifted them to 14th place in the table. Chelsea are sixth after their third consecutive away defeat.

Everton moved up to second with a 1-0 win at bottom club Sheffield United.

Jamie Vardy struck the equaliser as Leicester City came back twice to end Manchester United's away winning streak in the Premier League with a 2-2 draw at the King Power stadium.

Fans return to English football

Chelsea beat Leeds United 3-1 in front of 2,000 spectators at Stamford Bridge while Manchester United fought back from a goal down to win 3-1 at West Ham United -- their fifth straight comeback victory on the road -- in front of the same size crowd.

Clubs in less restricted areas of England were allowed to welcome back 2,000 fans but in higher risk places games carried on behind closed doors with Manchester City beating Fulham 2-0 and Everton held to a 1-1 draw at Burnley.

Chelsea secure third place on EPL ladder

Chelsea have 15 points from eight games, one behind surprise leaders Southampton and title holders Liverpool, who visit Manchester City tonight.

Sheffield United are still looking for their first victory of the season and have picked up only one point so far.

Manchester United eased the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a 3-1 win at Everton with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice and Edinson Cavani grabbing his first for the club.

Willian leaving Chelsea

The 32-year-old, linked with a move across town to Arsenal, posted a farewell letter to the club's fans on Twitter.

"The time has now come to move on. I am certainly going to miss my team mates," he said. "I leave with my head held high, safe in the knowledge that I won things here and always did my best in a Chelsea shirt!"

Willian, who began his career with Corinthians in Sao Paulo, joined Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013 and made over 300 appearances for the club, winning two Premier League titles.

Man United and Chelsea get Champions League spots

Aston Villa survived thanks to a 1-1 draw at West Ham United which moved them to 35 points, one more than Bournemouth, who go down despite a 3-1 win at Everton and Watford who lost 3-2 at Arsenal.

A penalty from Bruno Fernandes and late goal from Jesse Lingard gave United the three points with a 2-0 win at Leicester City, who missed out on the Champions League by finishing fifth.

Chelsea ended in fourth spot after a 2-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mourinho's Stamford Bridge woes

During his two spells in charge of the Blues, Mourinho turned the Bridge into a fortress as the club lifted three Premier League titles.

But when he has gone back to his old stomping ground as a visiting boss, things have not panned out so well.

Indeed, in five trips across the Premier League and FA Cup, Mourinho is yet to taste victory when in charge of a domestic rival.

After this weekend's reverse left Spurs four points adrift of his old club, we look at Mourinho's tale of woe in familiar surroundings in west London.
