Samoan climate change warrior Brianna Fruean receives chiefly title in home village

The traditional ceremony also known as a Saofai took place in her village of Toamua and ​was attended by chiefs of the village, family and friends. 

PMN News reports 24-year-old Suluafi-Fruean said on her Instagram: ​“I am honored to serve my village and continue to try my best to live a life of service adorned in kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” 

Samoa court declaration to register Gatoaitele paramount title quashed

He is one of the prominent chiefs of Afega village, and editor in chief of the Samoa Observer news outlet.

The court has ruled the Supreme Court lacked the jurisdiction to make that declaration sought by the respondent.

The matter has been referred to the Lands and Titles court to now consider a petition filed out of the three months period against the bestowal of this title.

Extension granted over Malietoa appeal in Samoa

The Samoa Observer reported Patu Tiava'asu'e Falefatu Sapolu gave the nod to four parties of the Malietoa family for more time to prepare.

The Land and Titles Court ruled in favour of Papalii Fa'amausili Moli as the next holder of the paramount title of Malietoa just before Christmas.

He's the son of the late Malietoa Tanumafili II.

The Malietoa title had been vacant for a decade since the death of the former Head of State, susuga Malietoa Tanumafili II.

An appeal can be filed or an extension requested within 21 days.

Samoa's Malietoa choice hits snag

Papali'itele Faamausili Moli, who is a son of the late head of state and title holder, Malietoa Tanumafili II, has been put forward, reportedly with support from all three branches of the family.

But family matai Papalii Titiuatoa Malietoa said that was not the case and it was not a unanimous decision by the late head of state's direct descendants.

He said Papali'itele Faamausili Moli got other people to say yes who did not belong to the family to get it through.
