Samoa makes Covid booster shots available, public urged to vaccinate

Valasi said 40,000 doses are in stock and an additional 30,000 doses of booster doses are expected to be delivered in March.

“Vaccination is the only Covid-19 lifesaving antidote available,” Valasi told Parliament last week reports Savali newspaper.

Latest data show a high coverage of close to 100 percent of Samoa’s population have completed three vaccine doses including the 3rd booster.

Valasi said to date more than 94 percent of the eligible population have completed the two initial vaccination, complemented by 96 percent who have received the two booster shots.

Chief Executive Officers and the Legislative staff also received their booster doses.

The administration of the booster dose was conducted by health officials behind Parliament House during a break from session.

All members of Parliament, who have completed their first and second doses were obliged to take their booster doses after the Speaker considered an advice from the Health for all parliament members to take their booster doses.

Prime Minister Fiame, Naomi Mataafa as well as other members were the first to take their doses following other MPs.

 

Fiji rolls out Covid-19 booster shots

The decision was made following the authorization of the use of Moderna vaccine for booster doses in more than 30 countries including the United States, the UK, Israel, Singapore, and France.

The Health Ministry said they want to ensure full protection against Covid-19 for those who will deal directly with incoming travellers when the borders reopen tomorrow.

The booster is also for those who will be at high risk of severe disease when exposed to the virus.
