Samoa's police and prisons not meeting Covid-19 measures according to Ombudsman report

Papalii Monalisa Keti in an email cited the most pressing issue is the overcrowding in cell blocks and not meeting social distancing requirements.

She confirmed receiving the Ombudsman's report which has provided an evaluation of the preparedness, prevention, and control of Covid-19 at Tanumalala Prison.

Papalii acknowledged the work of the Ombudsman's Office in providing her Ministry with recommendations which they will continue to work on.

     

Former Samoa auditor slams Government handling of Covid response

Former government Chief Auditor, Su'a Rimoni Ah Chong, is quoted by the Samoa Observer as saying the lack of information has created uncertainty amongst the people.

He says most of the requirements put in place by the health officials are not well implemented and enforced.

Su'a says that in Apia shops it was evident that people are not following the orders and measures put in place by authorities.
