Cyber-attack

UK TV drama about North Korea hit by cyber-attack

The series - due to be written by an Oscar-nominated screenwriter - has been shelved.

In August 2014, Channel 4 announced what it said would be a new "bold and provocative" drama series.

Titled Opposite Number, the programme's plot involved a British nuclear scientist taken prisoner in North Korea.

The production firm involved - Mammoth Screen - subsequently had its computers attacked.

The project has not moved forward because of a failure to secure funding, the company says.

Russia behind cyber-attack, says Ukraine

The country's security service, the SBU, said it had obtained data that points to a link with an attack on the nation's capital, Kiev, in December.

Ukrainian firms were among the first to report issues with malicious software on Tuesday, before the virus spread.

Moscow denied any involvement, adding that the allegations were "unfounded".

The virus, which disrupted IT systems across the globe, froze computers and demanded a ransom be paid in the digital currency Bitcoin, which is untraceable.

Global cyber-attack reaches Australia

International law firm DLA Piper has told Australian employees it has been the victim of a "major cyber incident" overnight.

Its Washington DC office was apparently affected, and Australian staff were advised via text early this morning that all IT systems had been taken down to contain the situation.

The Cadbury chocolate factory in Hobart has also been targeted, the ABC has reported.

A union official said production at Cadbury's Claremont facility was halted when the computer system went down about 9.30pm yesterday in what was described as a "cyber-attack".

Ukraine power cut 'was cyber-attack'

The blackout lasted just over an hour and started just before midnight on 17 December.

The cyber-security company Information Systems Security Partners (ISSP) has linked the incident to a hack and blackout in 2015 that affected 225,000.

It also said a series of other recent attacks in Ukraine were connected.

The 2016 power cut had amounted to a loss of about one-fifth of Kiev's power consumption at that time of night, national energy company Ukrenergo said at the time.
