'The Boss Baby' doesn't milk enough laughs from premise

Based on a popular picture book, the basic idea could hardly be more universal: life is going along just swimmingly for 7 Ā½-year-old Tim (voiced by Miles Bakshi), until his parents (Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy Kimmel) inform him that he's about to have a baby brother.

Because a grown-up Tim (Tobey Maguire) narrates the story, a bit of hyperbole is reasonable, like his recollection of the baby (Alec Baldwin, in an inspired casting stroke) motoring up to the driveway in a cab, already wearing a little suit and tie.

The Rock puts muscle behind boot camp in HBO documentary

Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, lends his celebrity to the similarly themed "Rock and a Hard Place," which hews closer to reality TV than most of HBO's nonfiction efforts.

The film centers on the Miami-Dade County Corrections & Rehabilitation Boot Camp Program, which seeks to break the "cycle of incarceration" by putting 38 young men, all facing prison sentences for serious crimes, through a 16-week boot camp conducted by military personnel.

'Beauty and the Beast' nabs $350 million worldwide

Of that total, $170 million came at theaters in North America.

The domestic total exceeded what people in the industry had expected, and it broke the record for the biggest box office opening in March. The record had been held by last year's opening of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." It's also the best opening weekend of 2017 so far.

Disney's blockbuster formula for rebooting tales as old as time

Starring Emma Watson, "Beauty and the Beast" is another reimagined tale for Disney that follows box office hits "Alice in Wonderland" (2010), "Maleficent" (2014), "Cinderella" (2015) and most recently, "The Jungle Book."

Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios motion picture production, told CNN the company's strategy of adapting its animated classics for contemporary audiences can be traced back to Walt Disney himself.

Google Home confuses users with apparent ad for 'Beauty and the Beast'

When some Google Home owners turned on their virtual assistants Thursday morning, the device delivered the usual weather forecast, calendar of events and other updates. And then they heard something else: "By the way, Disney's live action 'Beauty and the Beast' opens today."

People soon took to social media sites to complain about what they thought was an advertisement.

'Beauty and the Beast' serves up sumptuous feast

A quarter-century later, the live-action version sumptuously holds up to that legacy, delicately expanding upon and updating the original in enormously crowd-pleasing fashion.

Young Sheldon will star Iain Armitage as a nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper, one of the main characters in the hit show.

Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, will narrate the new show as the adult Sheldon.

Zoe Perry will take on the role of Sheldon's mother - the character is played by Zoe's real mother Laurie Metcalf in Big Bang Theory.

Beauty and the Beast release postponed in Malaysia

The Emma Watson film was due to open on Thursday but has been put on hold due to an "internal review". No specific reason has been given for the decision.

The film courted controversy last week after it emerged it would featureĀ a "gay moment".

Homosexual activity is illegal in Muslim majority Malaysia, although the tourism minister has said banning the film is "ridiculous".

"You don't ban a film because of a gay character," Seri Nazri Aziz told the Malay Mail.

Ed Sheeran to make guest appearance in Game of Thrones

Speaking at the SXSW film festival in Texas, David Benioff and Dan Weiss said they'd been trying to book him for a while.

Ed also confirmed the news as reports started to appear online by tweeting "guess the cat's out the bag".

It's not clear what role he'll have in the show.

The panel at SXSW also featured stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.

It was suggested that the Ed Sheeran booking was made as a surprise for Maisie because she's a big fan of the singer.

Ed's not the first musician to appear in Game of Thrones.
