Savea to stay in black

RNZ reports the 22 year old, who made his All Blacks Test debut against Wales last month, said it had been an easy decision to re-commit until the end of 2018.

"I'm loving my rugby right now at all levels of the game and I'm excited about the future with both the Hurricanes and, if I'm good enough to be selected again, the All Blacks.

Hurricanes call up Eves and Halaholo

Eves comes into the starting team for Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, who broke his arm during last week's win over the Blues, while Halaholo earns a promotion from the reserves after Vince Aso was ruled out with a calf strain.

Prop Ben May and midfielder Ngani Laumape, who has recovered from a groin strain, come into the reserves, while openside Callum Gibbins returns to the squad after skipping the Blues match due to concussion.

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd said it was a great opportunity for the players who had been called up to the starting side.

Cory Jane says 'sayonara' to Wellington

Jane has signed a two-year contract with Toshiba in Tokyo.

He will head to Japan at the end of the Super Rugby season, where he will join former All Blacks Richard Kahui and Liam Messam as well as Chiefs number eight Michael Leitch.

"I'm looking forward to playing in Japan and to experiencing a new culture and taking on a new challenge," Jane said.

"It was important to me that I honoured the remaining year on my Hurricanes contract and of course that I was sure I was doing what was best for my family. To have achieved both of those things is great."

Hurricanes edge out Highlanders

The Highlanders dominated territory early on but were unable to convert that advantage into points.

The Hurricanes opened the scoring against the run of play with an almost length of the field try.

Highlanders bracing for a Hurricane in Wellington

RNZI reports Whitelock, the younger brother of twice World Cup-winning lock Sam, made his sole appearance for the All Blacks off the bench against Japan in 2013.

The 25-year-old moved south from Canterbury this season and has been at the forefront of the Highlanders resurgence after two mid-season losses, with the side having beaten the Chiefs and Crusaders in their last two matches.

Hurricanes thump Lions

RNZI reports the visitors ran in seven tries, all but two in the first half, with centres Matt Proctor and Vince Aso and prop Reggie Goodes also grabbing scores to go with 15 points from the boot of flyhalf Beauden Barrett.

The Lions were never in the contest, but still managed three tries through hooker Armand van der Merwe, centre Lionel Mapoe and flanker Jaco Kriel.

Hurricanes de-claw Jaguars

The home side outscored the visitors from Argentina six tries to three in the bonus-point victory in which Beauden Barrett, Dane Coles and Ben May also crossed the line.

Savea slid over in the left hand corner twice in the final three minutes of the first half to flip the contest in the Hurricanes' favour.

But few boast the competitiveness and work ethic that make the openside flanker one of the team's top performers week after week. If everyone drove themselves as hard as he does, the Hurricanes would hardly lose a match.

Hurricanes blow away Kings

The Hurricanes execution at pace in the opening quarter had indicated another rout was on the cards for the Kings, who had conceded 158 points in their first three games this season.

The home side scored tries to Ngani Laumape, Blade Thomson and Ardie Savea to establish a 19-3 lead in the first 25 minutes, with Savea's efforts promoting his All Black call-up chances later in the year.

Cane cleared of dangerous tackle

Cane was alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling, when he made contact with the Jaguares prop Nahuel Chaparro at a tackle contest during the match between the Jaguares and Chiefs at Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires.
