Jack Nicklaus

Nicklaus turns down $150 million to be face of Saudi golf series

Nicklaus, who counts a record 18 major titles among his 73 PGA Tour wins, said in an article on the Fire Pit Collectivewebsite that organizers of the series asked him to spearhead the big-money circuit.

"I was offered something in excess of $150 million by the Saudis, to do the job probably similar to the one that Greg (Norman) is doing," Nicklaus said in the report.

"I turned it down. Once verbally, once in writing. I said, 'Guys, I have to stay with the PGA Tour. I helped start the PGA Tour."

Nicklaus congratulates Tiger Woods

Woods, who has struggled with injuries in recent years, was awarded the medal by United States president Donald Trump after he shockingly took home the 2019 Masters title.

It was Woods' 15th major win but his first since 2008.

"Heartfelt congrats to [Tiger Woods] on receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom this evening!" Nicklaus wrote on Twitter.

Nicklaus: Tiger needs our help

According to a probable cause affidavit released on Tuesday, via the Golf Channel, Woods' black Mercedes was stopped in the roadway and the golfer "had to be woken up" by the police officer who came on the scene.

In a statement on Monday that followed reports of his arrest, the former world number one blamed the incident on an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications, adding: "I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved."

Tiger Woods casts doubt on Jack Nicklaus major record chase

The former world No.1 needs four more majors to equal Nicklaus' mark, but the 40-year-old has not won one of golf's big four events since the 2008 US Open and has not played competitively since August 2015 after multiple back surgeries.

Woods was asked in an interview to be aired Thursday on "Charlie Rose: This Week on PBS" whether he still thinks he will get to 18 majors.

"To be honest with you, no," he replied.
