Kevin Naiqama

Naiqama to captain Fiji against PNG

The pair are among 15 NRL players in a 30-man squad named for the June 25 Test at Sydney's Campbelltown Stadium, which will headline a double-header also featuring Samoa and the Cook Islands.

Naiqama was first appointed captain of the Bati in 2016 and led the nation to the 2017 World Cup semi-finals.

Players based in the northern hemisphere, including Korbin Sims and Kane Evans were not considered.

The squad, which will go into camp next Monday, June 20, includes four players from the Fiji domestic competition.

Two of the players are playmaker Kevin Naiqama and Kane Evans.

West Tigers centre Naiqama has been representing Fiji in all the seven years of his rugby league career starting in 2009.

This weekend he will be leading the Fiji Bati onto the field against Toa Samoa in Apia.

“I was born in Australia, but mum and dad are both full Fijian and being from Fijian descent is a privilege for me and I value that,” he said.

“It isn’t just about the money for me. I’m here to represent my country and I take pride in that as well,” he said.
