UK police officers admit sending racist messages about Meghan, royals

The five officers, who have all retired, were charged after an investigation by BBC's Newsnight programme which discovered the men had sent the messages between August 2018 and September 2022, a period when they had all left the police.

Three of the messages featured racist comments about Meghan, the wife of King Charles' younger son, Prince Harry. Meghan's mother is Black and her father is white.

The show, which was announced last year, is one of several projects being dropped by the streaming giant.

Last month, Netflix revealed a sharp fall in subscribers and warned millions more are set to quit the service.

That wiped over $50bn off the company's market value as experts warned it faced a struggle to get back on track.

Archewell Productions, the company formed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced last year that Meghan would be an executive producer of Pearl.

It was during the couple's interview with Oprah Winfrey that they spoke of the difficulties they had faced during their time as part of the royal family.

These included claims of racism by Meghan which Prince Harry confirmed.

Despite the couple's offer to work with the monarchy to help them move forward in a more inclusive way, Her Majesty and palace staff are thought to have opted to deal with matters themselves, announcing they will be hiring a diversity coach.

The decision means that honorary military appointments and royal patronages held by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be revoked and redistributed among working members of the royal family, the palace said in a statement.

But the couple said they will continue to be committed to their duties in Britain and elsewhere -- pointedly insisting that "service is universal."

A review of the couple's position since stepping back as senior royals last January was expected next month, but has been brought forward.

The Duchess of Sussex, cradling her baby bump as she is wont to do, visited one of her four new patronages, an animal welfare organisation called Mayhew earlier this week.

Hundreds more are settling in for a night on the streets of Windsor to secure the best viewing spot.

The couple will wed at noon at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, before travelling through the town in a carriage at about 13:00 BST.

In her vows, Ms Markle will not promise to "obey" her husband and Prince Harry has chosen to have a wedding ring.

Prince Charles will walk Ms Markle down the aisle, after her father, Thomas, was unable to attend for health reasons.

Meghan's father may not attend ceremony

Mr Markle told celebrity news website TMZ, at his home in Mexico, that he had decided not to attend his daughter's wedding to Prince Harry.

Kensington Palace issued a statement saying it was "a deeply personal moment for Ms Markle".

It follows Mail on Sunday reports that Ms Markle's father had staged pictures for a paparazzi photographer.

The widely circulated photographs showed him being measured for a wedding suit and looking at newspaper stories about his daughter.

Prince Harry's fiancee took the decision because the accounts "haven't been used for some time". Ms Markle also ran her own lifestyle website, The Tig, which she closed in April 2017.

The palace said the former actress and UN ambassador was grateful to everyone who had followed her over the years.

The move came after the couple made their first official visit in London.

In December 2017, Ms Markle had 1.9 million people following her posts on Instagram, and more than 350,000 Twitter followers.

Her Facebook page had almost 800,000 likes.
