Samoa MPs highlight violence against women and children

TV1Samoa reports this was in support of the Malu i Fale initiative promoting the end of domestic violence.

Research done in 2017 found 60 percent of women face some form of violence in the home, an increase from 46 percent in 2000.

     

Samoa Members of Parliament receive Covid-19 booster shots

Chief Executive Officers and the Legislative staff also received their booster doses.

The administration of the booster dose was conducted by health officials behind Parliament House during a break from session.

All members of Parliament, who have completed their first and second doses were obliged to take their booster doses after the Speaker considered an advice from the Health for all parliament members to take their booster doses.

Prime Minister Fiame, Naomi Mataafa as well as other members were the first to take their doses following other MPs.

 

MPs in Samoa change minds over petition withdrawal

The petition by Lolomatauama Eseta Mataituli against the election winner for Aana Alofi 2 constituency, Aiono Afaese Toleafoa, has been rescheduled for hearing today after Aiono changed his mind.

He told the Court yesterday that there have been changes to the original agreement with Lolomatauama and he is now prepared to pursue the matter in court.

He said that he had agreed to resign the seat as well as sit out the ensuing by-election but Lolomatauama now wants him never to contest any more future elections for the constituency seat.

Cooks MPs to get vaccination first as rollout set to begin

Mr Brown says with the support from New Zealand, they've managed to receive sufficient Pfizer vaccine to provide full coverage for the population.

All residents in the Cook Islands over the age of 16 years are eligible for vaccination.

New Zealand support includes technical advice, vaccine logistics planning and support and vaccinator workforce training. It also includes the supply of consumables such as syringes and the transportation of the vaccine.
