President of the support group, Galumalemana Siliniu Lina Chang ‘Macho’ said attitudes and pride’ have been named as the main cause behind lesser men coming into seek assistance for Domestic Violence.

Siliniu also said “the numbers fall more towards women and girl victims then men but was unable to provide an exact estimate of women affected by domestic violence compared to men.”

“And most of those that come through SVSG are housed by the organization at their campus at Tuanaimato if in severe cases.”

That's the message from the Minister for Women, Faimalotoa Kika Stowers, who told TV1 that her ministry was continuing efforts to combat the problem.

Faimalotoa urged men to drink in moderation during the holidays.

The ministry said reports of domestic violence increased last year in Samoa, with more than 500 incidents reported to police.
