An NYPD rep told E! News that the killing took place early on Sunday. She was found with multiple stab wounds on her torso on a street in Harlem and taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A 30-year-old man was detained at the scene and later taken to another medical center. His identity has not been released and no charges have been filed. Police are still investigating the incident.

It's believed that the suspect knew the deceased.

Police have not released the identity of the victim who is from Samoa and was living and working with relatives in American Samoa.

His body was found in bushes near the intersection of Vailoa and Taputimu Friday morning.

American Samoa's Commissioner of Public Safety, Save Tuitele, says preliminary information indicates that the deceased and suspect had argued over a girl while they were in a car and the suspect stabbed the victim with a pocket knife in the vehicle he was driving.

Police say Adrian Jerry Gonzalez lured Madyson Middleton from a courtyard where she had been riding her scooter over the weekend into his family's apartment where he attacked and killed her.

Gonzalez remains in custody at the Santa Cruz County juvenile detention center, where he has been held since being arrested Monday evening near a recycling bin where the girl's body had been dumped.
