Junior Paulo next NRL star to commit to Samoa for World Cup

His commitment comes just a week after Canberra Raiders and Queensland forward Josh Papali’i declared his allegiance to the Pacific nation.

Paulo, 28, has played nine Tests for Samoa. He was a member of the squad for the 2017 World Cup Down Under. The New South Wales star has never represented Australia, but was considered a near certainty in Mal Meninga’s squad if he had chosen to represent the Kangaroos.

He did represent Australia as a junior.

Chanel Harris-Tavita in battle to play one last Warriors game before quitting league

Warriors interim coach Stacey Jones said on Wednesday that it has been confirmed as a medial collateral ligament injury in Harris-Tavita’s knee which will sideline him for around a month.

Given that there are only five games left in the season, it is possible that the 23-year-old has played his last game for the club.

“He has done his MCL, so that’s a three to four-week injury,” Jones said.

“We’re hoping that Chanel is going to get back out on the field before the end of the year.

Jarome Luai confirms he’ll play for Samoa at the World Cup

Luai joins his Panthers and Blues teammate Brian To’o in committing to Samoa, while Queensland and Raiders star Josh Papalii is expected to follow suit.

All three have previously played for Samoa but were in contention for Kangaroos selection.

“I am going to play for Samoa. It is who I am, and it is how I was bought up,” Luai told NRL.com.

“I know I live in Australia, but it is just a way of life for us. We are really connected to our Polynesian side as well.

Eels bounce back to down Roosters

The Eels bounced back from a shock loss to the last-placed Bulldogs last Monday to produce one of the best performances of the season.

Parramatta’s forwards overpowered their rivals and their backs capitalized as the Eels piled on five razzle-dazzle tries.

Props for the NSW OriginJunior Paulo and Reagan Campbell-Gillard carried the ball for more than 200 metres each, while back-rower Ryan Matterson produced five of his side’s 21 offloads.

Broncos win again

The Broncos overcame the loss of Adam Reynolds on the morning of the game to a groin issue and while they weren't at their attacking best without their playmaker early, they repelled Newcastle's attacking raids before shutting the Knights out in the second half.

Brisbane scored six tries to two.

Brisbane are fourth on the table and Newcastle 14th.

The Warriors play the Dragons tomorrow.

Ash Taylor retires from Warriors

The 27-year-old has osteoarthritis and played just one game for the Warriors this season because of hip problems.

Taylor had played for the Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans and the Warriors over the career that spanned 116 games.

"Three shoulder reconstructions, two compound fractured fingers, hand, arm, wrist, ankle, abductor and the more recent hip surgery I think my body has been through a bit.

Warriors dig deep to clinch bounce back NRL win

Coming off a 70-10 thumping to the Melbourne Storm, the New Zealand side came-from-behind to clinch a 21-20 golden point win over the Canberra Raiders in Redcliffe on Saturday night.

Facing a 20-12 halftime deficit, the Warriors fought back in the second spell, with a late converted try and then a penalty forcing the match into extra-time.

There it was returned playmaker Shaun Johnson who was the hero, kicking the match-winning field goal to give his side their fourth win of the season.

Warriors swept away by the Storm

The annual Anzac day match was shaping up to be a tight encounter at half-time with the Storm leading 16-10, before running in 10 second half tries to rip the Warriors apart.

Melbourne wing Xavier Coates scored four tries in the romp, securing the Storm their biggest win over the Warriors, as well as the most points they have scored at home.

The second half was well and truly one way traffic, with the Storm enjoying 81 percent of possession as they piled on points.

Vunivalu shuts down rumours: 'I'm not sure if my manager's not telling me anything'

The star winger spent nearly a year on the sidelines, requiring two rounds of hamstring surgery, but was part of Queensland’s four-point win over Melbourne in their Super Rugby Pacific clash at AAMI Park on Friday night.

Managing 50 minutes, Vunivalu showed off his skills in the first half with a deft backhanded flick pass to send Reds teammate Hunter Paisami down the sideline.

After being restricted to just seven games in two seasons, Vunivalu was happy just to get some injury-free minutes on the ground where he enjoyed so much success with the Storm.

Warriors keep the spine the same

Interchange prop Aaron Pene (shoulder) and back rower Bayley Sironen (Covid) have come straight back into the line-up after missing last Saturday's 20-6 win over Brisbane.

Their returns are offset by utility forward Jazz Tevaga being suspended for two matches on a dangerous contact charge and interchange forward Ben Murdoch-Masila sidelined with an leg injury he picked up just 18 minutes into his return last week.
