Fabulous Federer wins Miami title

At the scene of his first meeting with Nadal, which took place 13 years ago, Federer was able to make it four wins in a row against the Spaniard, following up his recent Masters 1000 success in Indian Wells by claiming his third Miami title and first since 2006.

The 35-year-old Swiss has now won three of the four tournaments he has competed in this year, a stunning return following the injury troubles that blighted his previous season.

Nadal celebrates 1,000th match

Nadal's milestone outing did not go according to plan early, condemned to a bagel for just the 14th time in his illustrious career, but the former world number one kept his composure to win 0-6 6-2 6-3.

The fifth seed - who boasted a superior 13-1 head-to-head record - was sensationally shut out in just 25 minutes in the opening set before halting Kohlschreiber in his tracks.

Next up for Nadal is Nicolas Mahut as he seeks his maiden title at the ATP 1000 event in Miami after reaching the final on four occasions without success.

Rafael Nadal: Spanish tennis star ends season due to injury

The Spaniard had been due to compete in next week's Swiss Indoors Basel, where he was beaten by Roger Federer in last year's final, and the season-ending World Tour Finals in November.

Nadal has been suffering problems with his left wrist since May when he pulled out of the French Open in the first week. He then tried to accelerate his recovery in an attempt to be fit in time for Rio 2016, where he won a gold medal with Marc Lopez in the doubles.

However, another complication in the same wrist has now forced him to focus on being fit for the start of 2017.

Nadal's injury troubles resurface in heavy Coric defeat

Rafael Nadal's wrist troubles appeared to resurface as he suffered a 6-1 6-3 thumping at the hands of Borna Coric in the third round of the Western and Southern Open.

The world number five eased past Pablo Cuevas in the second round, but was comfortably beaten by 19-year-old Coric on Thursday.

Nadal eases past Cuevas

Rafael Nadal continued his solid form with a straight-sets win over Pablo Cuevas in the Western and Southern Open second round.

The Spaniard, who lost the bronze-medal match at the Olympics on his return from a wrist injury, gained a measure of revenge over Cuevas with a 6-1 7-6 (7-4) victory.

French Open: Nadal withdraws due to wrist injury

With third-round action in full swing out on the Roland Garros claycourts, Nadal dropped a bombshell midway though a sunny afternoon when he announced he was withdrawing because of an injury to his left wrist.

For one of the game's fiercest fighters, it was a lame way to go - especially after he had dropped only nine games in reaching the third round where he had been due to play compatriot Marcel Granollers on Saturday.

Nadal takes action against doping claims

RNZI reports Nadal is upset with comments made by Roselyne Bachelot, who was formerly Minister for Health and Sport.

The 14-time Grand Slam winner says he will sue anyone else who alleges "something similar in the future".

Nadal says he is tired of the allegations and is no longer prepared to let them pass unchallenged.
