Samoa confirms 128,848 registered voters prior to general elections

The Office of the Electoral Commission has confirmed that total roll is following the removal of 3673, which was the total number of deceased voters.

The three-day pre-polling window has been set by the office of the Electoral Commission prior to the official Election Day on 9 April.
 

Election Officials to work for the OEC during Election Day are also eligible to vote during the pre-polling stages.

Nearly 130,000 voters registered for Samoa’s General Elections

The final roll was confirmed by the Office of the Electoral Commission to Savali Newspaper.

The 128,848 is the official number following the removal of 3673, which was the total number of deceased voters.

With the rolls finalized, the Electoral Commissioner Faimalomatumua Mathew Lemisio said the OEC has been proactive in following the remaining steps required to prepare for April.

The preparations include a training of volunteers to serve under the OEC during the Elections.

The voters’ election roll represents 60% of our 190,000 population, the highest ever since our independence over half a century ago.

The official voters registration roll released recently by the Office of the Electoral Commissioner also shows that close to 7,000 new voters representing first time registrations and 21 year olds who are qualified to cast their ballots in March.
