“Just an incredible, incredible person and tragic to lose”, says Duane Mann, former rugby league player and coach. 

“Humility, such a community man, extraordinary through his football career, both in rugby and rugby league. He did many things other people simply can’t do, so he was a person who paved the way.”

A public memorial will be held to remember Lomu on Monday, November 30, at Eden Park from 1pm.

Lomu, who scored 43 tries and played 63 Tests for New Zealand between 1994 and 2002, was diagnosed with a serious kidney condition while still playing.

It forced him to quit the game and he had a kidney transplant in 2004, but it stopped functioning in 2011.
