Samoa’s Manusina XV in top form at Oceania Women's Rugby Championship

The team defeated the Papua New Guinea Cassowarries 83-0.

It is the second heavy defeat in a row for the Cassowarries, who lost 77-0 to the Fijiana XV in round one at Bond University in Queensland.



Samoa women back Rugby World Cup delay

The World Cup was scheduled to be held in New Zealand in September and October but the governing body said it had become clear that it's not possible to deliver the environment for all teams to be at their best.

Fiji was poised to make its World Cup debut in New Zealand while Samoa were among a host of teams still trying to qualify for the 12 team tournament.

Manusina coach, Ramsey Tomokino, heard whispers the tournament could be delayed and said the announcement from World Rugby made sense.

Quarantine requirement poses difficult balancing act for Manusina

The Manusina are through to the final qualification tournament, expected to take place in Europe in May, four months before the World Cup kicks off in New Zealand.

All of the players are amateurs, and Coach Ramsey Tomokino said if they had to spend a month in quarantine on top of the World Cup proper it could be a bridge too far.

"It would mean some players might have to leave their jobs or just say no because their employment is their livelihood, and that is the difference between the men's and the women's game, where we're not full-time professional athletes.

Samoan rugby growing but still needs help from New Zealand and Australia

World Rugby's decision to increase the number of teams from twelve follows increasing calls for the event to be expanded, with women and girls now accounting for 28 percent of the global playing population.

Since 2006 there have been 12 teams split into three pools, including next year's tournament in New Zealand..... from 2025 quarter-finals will be included.

Samoa has played in three tournaments, the last was in 2014.
