55 year old Samoan loses deportation appeal after raping stepdaughter

The Samoan man raped the girl in their Wellington home and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

One of the incidents happened in a cemetery, and when the victim told her mother what had happened, the man hit her.

RNZ reports he was jailed in 2011 for 14 years after being found guilty of twice raping a girl under 12, four counts of indecent assault, two counts of unlawful connection, one charge of threatening to kill and one of assaulting a child.

The 55-year-old will be deported when his prison term ends.

Multi-lingual plays published in new book

"Talanoa: Four Pacific Plays" is the latest work from New Zealand-based Little Island Press.

RNZI reports the plays explore different aspects of Pacific people navigating New Zealand society as well as life back in the islands.

Olivia Taouma of Little Island Press also worked as a Pacific programmer for Auckland Council.

She said she helped co-ordinate a series of workshops at libraries to help Pacific writers publish and access a wider audience.

Unlicensed Samoan immigration adviser awaits sentencing

In Porirua District Court Menefata Toso, also known as Limu M F Asiata, faced four charges of providing immigration advice without a licence, three charges of holding himself out as a licensed immigration adviser, and three charges of receiving fees for the provision of immigration advice, the Immigration Advisers Authority says.
