Moana Pasifika captain Jack Lam 'really leads through action’

Jack Lam, who will captain Moana Pasifika for the first time in place of Sekope Kepu, says he hopes the team's win will give them the momentum to carry through against the Blues.

Lam says it's an opportunity for himself as well as the rest of the team.

"Very excited as well for us in this group. Obviously a pretty short turn around for us - was it 3 days ago - the boys had played and put a pretty big effort in, so there'll be a couple changes for this game with those boys pulling out with injuries and whatnot."

Moana Pasifika make history in Super Rugby Pacific

After an extended break the Hurricanes could not hold off a determined Moana Pasifika who won 24-19 in the first golden point game of the new competition.

Covid-19 outbreaks had interrupted both teams' schedules this season and the Wellington side had not played in nearly three weeks before Friday's game.

Moana Pasifika had only played twice in six weeks before welcoming the Hurricanes to their near empty stadium, but they showed fight to foot it with a Hurricanes side that had won two of their three games this season.

Reds lose in Super Rugby Pacific

The 2021 Super Rugby AU Grand Final rematch didn't disappoint with a tight, physical 80-minutes of rugby. The Brumbies came out on top in a hard-fought fixture, despite the Reds scoring two tries-to-one.

The game came down to the wire once again, with the Brumbies holding on in the final minutes to break a three-game losing streak against the Queenslanders.

First five-eighth James O'Connor earned the Reds their first five-pointer of the night with a deceiving right-foot step and show and go close to the line to make it 7-3 in the 26th minute.

After four years at the Highlanders, the one-test All Black went in search of more game time, and with Damian McKenzie skipping this maiden Super Rugby Pacific competition for a season in Japan, the opportunity was there for Ioane to make the move north.
