The song is taken from her seventh studio album, Lover, the first new music released since her departure from Big Machine Records.

It takes aim at male music executives - in particular Scooter Braun, who purchased her back catalogue last year.

The credits stress the video was directed, produced and owned by Swift.

In the video, the lead character, in heavy prosthetics, stops to relieve himself against an underground wall which has been graffitied with the name of Swift's first six albums - all of which are owned by the Big Machine label.

The singer said music executives Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta would not let her perform songs from her past albums, which they own the rights to.

She said a Netflix documentary about her life had also been put in jeopardy.

Borchetta and Braun's Big Machine Records said Swift's statement was "based on false information".

Swift made the allegations in a statement posted to Twitter with the caption: "Don't know what else to do."

The pop stars two previous albums, Reputation and 1989, were both leaked online before their official release dates.

And now, the same thing has happened to Swift's brand new album, Lover.

Set to be released at midnight (US EST) on August 23 (4pm in NZ), the album's 18 tracks were uploaded a day early, causing a bit of an uproar among her fans, aka Swifties.

Many were unimpressed by the leak, taking to social media to call on other fans not to share any links or spoilers ahead of the planned release time.

The pop star shared her new You Need to Calm Down video on Monday.

The song, which debuted on Friday, is a cheeky anti-hate anthem that celebrates Pride.

For her upcoming new album, Lover, Swift has ditched the dark, sinister colour tones of her Reputation album in favour of candy-coated rainbow ones. 

The new music video follows suit, taking place in a wonderland of a trailer park, and ending with a buzzworthy scene of Katy Perry and Swift ending their long-running feud by embracing onscreen, with Perry as a hamburger and Swift an order of fries.

The star won four trophies, including artist of the year, making her the ceremony's most-decorated female ever.

She now holds 23 AMAs, beating a record previously held by Whitney Houston.

Swift, who recently broke years of political silence to declare support for two Democrats, again urged fans to take part in the US mid-term elections.

Accepting artist of the year, she said: "This award, and every single award given out tonight, were voted on by the people.

Effectively a stripped-back supercut of her current world tour, the six-song performance largely focused on the star's 2017 album Reputation.

She opened with the pummelling goth-pop of Ready For It, before racing through songs like Gorgeous and Delicate.

Fans were forced to wait to the end to hear the classics Blank Space and Shake It Off - and then it was all over.

But if the 26,000-strong audience who'd crammed into Swansea's Singleton Park felt short-changed, they didn't show it, shimmying along with Swift and her tightly-drilled dancers.

The star outsold every other artist in the US last year - shifting 1.9 million copies of her fifth record, Reputation, in just seven weeks.

But her decision to withhold it from streaming services until December damaged its chances in the chart of 2017's most popular albums.

That's because 1,500 streams now count as the equivalent of one album sale.

The record-breaking singer released the album last Friday (local time). She's taken digs at some famous A-listers, with the song 'Getaway Car' reportedly taking shots at both Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston. 

Swift sings: "The ties were black, the lies were white / In shades of grey in candlelight / I wanted to leave him / I needed a reason."

Eagle-eared fans believe the song is about meeting Hiddleston at the Met Gala, where the dress theme was black and white. The man mentioned at the end of the line is possibly Calvin Harris. 

Given the the number of records that Look What You Made Me Do has smashed, it is perhaps not a surprise.

The song, her first solo release in two years, has already had huge success on Spotify and YouTube.

It had 5.3 million streams and 30,000 downloads in its first week, the Official Charts Company said, and bumps Dua Lipa's New Rules off the top spot.

In just four days, the star has broken four major streaming records, beating the likes of Adele and Ed Sheeran.

Look What You Made Me Do was played a total of 10,129,087 times on Spotify last Friday, the day of its release, more than any other song has achieved in a single day.

The video also broke YouTube's one-day streaming record.
