Pacific worried by Trump and climate change

RNZ reports the president-elect repeatedly said during his campaign that climate change was a hoax created by China and that, if elected, he would withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement.

However, the director general of the Pacific Community or SPC, Colin Tukuitonga, said he expects to continue working with the US to mitigate climate change in the region.

Fiji Times reports in his address at the United Nations High Level Segment of this year's 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) in Marrakesh, Morocco, Mr Bainimarama said he was alarmed by reports of Mr Trump's intention to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. Mr Bainimarama said the president-elect's intention to withdraw from the agreement would be "disastrous for every person on earth".
