Handover of Pacific Games vehicles, fireworks and equipment to Samoa Government

The Government of the People’s Republic of China has presented vehicles, sports equipment and fireworks to Samoa, which is hosting the 2019 Pacific Games.

Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi received the donation at a ceremony Friday.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Samoa, I wish to thank the Government and people of China for the tremendous support and assistance that demystify the nuances of Samoa hosting a miracle game. May we continue to collaborate in the spirit of mutual trust, respect for each other’s sovereignty and a better appreciation of our differences,” Tuilaepa said.

He added that he is mostly appreciative of the timely arrival particularly of the sports equipment saying “no doubt the preparations of our athletes will reach another level with the opportunity to use the equipment for training.”

The Government of Samoa through the Pacific Games Organising Committee will receive 48 containers carrying 87 vehicles for the transportation of all official VIP guests, athletes and officials.

World-class equipment to be used by 15 sport codes are also included. Additionally, the fireworks donated by China are for a spectacular opening and closing ceremonies.

“May we continue to collaborate in the spirit of mutual trust, respect for each other’s sovereignty and a better appreciation of our differences,” said Prime Minister, Tuilaepa.
