The electoral commissioner, FaimalÅmatumua Mathew Lemisio, said the new system will cut down on waiting times at polling stations, and make for more effective counting.
He said it will also crack down on double-voting, with one vote allocated to a person's fingerprint.
FaimalÅmatumua said the system is being funded by the World Electoral Association in South Korea, and a team will arrive in Samoa this month to convert the electoral roll into an electronic system.
