A-G recalls statement critical of judiciary as 'olive branch' offered to FAST

The release demanded the judges appointed to hear an election appeal be disqualified because of, it was claimed, the judges' alleged potential conflicts of interest and potential favouritism.

"There is now substantive evidence before our office that is questioning the appearance of impartiality and integrity of the Judiciary presiding over this matter," the statement said.

The release added it is also apparent that the FAST party leader is a close relative of the Chief Justice Satiu Simativa Perese.

Samoa Judiciary Commission suspends three judges

One of them is the deputy president of the court, Seveali'i Panapa Ve'e.

The others are the senior judges Lavea Siaosi Hazelman and Judge Nanai Pologa Ioane.

A statement from the Ministry of Justice said the three were suspended on Monday pending an investigation into allegations regarding a decision of the court which involved the suspended judges.

The commission, chaired by the acting chief justice, Vui Clarence Nelson will appoint a committee to conduct the investigation.
