Both companies are excited to ink a new three-year deal for a ‘substantial’ investment after initially signing on as major netball sponsors in 2014. 

Mike Greig, Digicel Fiji CEO, said; “I am delighted to announce the Big sponsorship with our great partners, Punja and Sons, for the Fiji Netball Association. Our joint sponsorship will help the growth of the country’s single biggest female participation sport. I am excited that with Punjas we can continue to support Fiji Netball following an extremely successful partnership over the past three years.”

Digicel is the major sponsor of Special Olympics Team Fiji.

Digicel Fiji CEO, Mike Greig while signing the official sponsorship agreement said, “This is an on-going partnership which stretches years back to support Special Olympics Fiji in major events and now we are stepping up to support the team to attend the World meet.”

Special Olympics Team Fiji will send its largest contingent to the world meet with 21 athletes in five sports, supported by 14 strong volunteer team of managers and support staff.

The decision was retaliation for a public protest against unpaid salaries last week during the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Paris, when national team players hid the 'Brand Kenya' logo on their shirts.

The sponsorship withdrawal has thrown the cash-strapped Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) into disarray with head coach, Innocent Simiyu being sacked and top officials going into a crisis meeting Friday to seek a new sponsor ahead of next month's World Cup.

Simiyu said it has been "a great honour" to coach Kenya's sevens team.
