Australia donates two water tanks to Satapuala Primary School

Children of Satapuala Primary School on the northwest coast of Upolu, Samoa now have access to clean water.

The Government of Australia presented two new water tanks, a drinking fountain and fitting equipment worth $13, 025 to the school last Friday.

Minister of Communication and Information Technology and Member of Parliament for Satapuala, Afioga Afamasaga Rico Tupai acknowledged the support of the government of Australia.

"Access to proper water facility is one of the major problems in our village and our district and it’s the main reason our school asked Australia for assistance. Water is life and it is such a blessing for us to have quality access water facility for the children of our school," Afamasaga said.

He also asked Australia for assistance in landscaping the school playground so that the children can improve sports training in rugby, netball and soccer.

"I see potential sports people in this school and we need to provide them with the proper facilities to train and develop their skills." 

Australia's High Commissioner, Sue Langford said Australia has funded small scales community’s needs such as water tanks and pumps for many schools in Samoa.

"This funding supports community groups churches and nongovernmental organization to abide essential service to their communities," Langford said.
"This project programme is one of our development activities here in Samoa and we work closely with the Government of Samoa to deliver our water programme including our support to the Education sector which actually runs to 20million Tala from 2015 – 2019." 

Principal Palolo Lavea said the village of Satapuala and the school PTA funded the shelter for the water tanks.

She also assured that the parents, teachers and the children will work together to look after the project.
