“Rumble in Paradise” puts the spotlight on Samoa

"This is the biggest sporting event of its kind to be held in Samoa, and we thank you Lupesoliai Laauli Joseph Parker and Jason Bergman for bringing this big event to Samoa."

An elated Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi made the comment during the big island oriented weigh-in this morning.

"Samoa has always loved the sport of boxing, however a recent decline in performances has seen it move to become a tier-two sport, second only to rugby," Tuilaepa said.

"And I am proud to say that this rumble in paradise, will once again give the sport much focus, as well as inspire the upcoming boxers of what they can achieve with hard work and commitment to training."

"We are extremely proud to have a son of Samoa (Joseph Parker) exceed to higher levels, and hope to see him excel to where no one has ever done before," Tuilaepa said.

The bout will be accessible around the globe via SkyTV network with the help of local television studios in Samoa who will be filming the fight from Tuanaimato.

The weigh-in saw a slight difference in the weight of the two fighters, Jason Bergman who is slightly shorter than Parker weighed in at 116.7 kgs.

Parker weighed in at 108.9 kgs.

Rumble in Paradise will be the first time Samoa hosts a professional boxing bout with two world contenders in the ring.

"The whole world will be watching this event, and it is the hope they see Rumble in Paradise as an idea to visit Samoa as an ideal tourist destination," said the Prime Minister.

Bergman has been in Parker’s backyard for the last week and says he has enjoyed his time in Samoa, despite being the enemy in the upcoming fight.

"Everyone has been real nice, and I definitely will come back here for vacation soon," he said.

The corporate fight that has been making a little more noise than the main bout, the Brown Butterbean vs. Batman, was also acknowledged by the Prime Minister in a surprisingly odd introduction.

"And I would also like to convey my good luck to 'Peanut Butter', I mean Peter--- the Butterman in your corporate fight tomorrow night.
