Commemorative coin marks great Games achievement

A newly minted collectible coin has been released to celebrate the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

The coin, issued by the Central Bank of Samoa, is a nickel-plated steel 50 sene piece, stamped with the Samoa Commonwealth Youth Games 2015 logo.

Central Bank Governor Maiava Atalina Ainu’u-Enari said the coin would make a great keepsake in memory of the Games.

“Whether you’re an athlete, supporter, coach, spectator, or would just like to remember this great moment in Samoa’s sporting history, this collectible coin is the perfect keepsake,” Ms Ainu’u-Enari said.

The coins were minted at the Royal Australian Mint, with a circulating finish and a mintage of 2700.

There are nine different packs to collect, each representing the nine sports at the 2015 Games: aquatics, athletics, rugby 7s, archery, boxing, weightlifting, tennis, lawn bowls and squash.

“This is a very exciting time for Samoa, and we are honoured to be able to put our support behind all of the junior athletes in this way,” Ms Ainu’u-Enari said.

“I can see these coins shared with pride by those who attended the Games for years to come.”

The Samoa 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games commemorative coin goes on sale from today at a cost of 20 tala.

The coin will be available to buy from the Central Bank of Samoa, Samoa Post Office and the Tuinaimato Sports Complex.
