Digicel to fund $60,000 tala worth of scholarships for the new school year

Digicel Samoa has launched a promotion to help parents prepare their children for the 2016 school year

A $100,000 tala worth of prizes has been allocated to a special promotion by the company that includes $60,000 tala worth of scholarships, more than $33,000 tala worth of smartphones to be handed out, and $5,200 tala worth of stationery vouchers.

The push by Digicel is to cater to the needs of as many as they can, especially in pushing education, which is why the 60 $1,000 tala scholarships has been the pride and joy for the company.

Last year, the company also launched a $50,000 tala scholarship scheme where students are to present applications to the company to attend any of the two local universities to study the fields of business and IT studies.

Digicel’s Corporate Services Manager, Leaupepe Talai Jr. Lene emphasized the new developments by Digicel is just a part of their old plans and projects, saying the company is focused on improving communities.

"For the $50,000 tala scholarship scheme from last year we have had about 20 applications so far," Leaupepe said.

"Right now we are looking at two more weeks before we finalize those to be granted those scholarships."

This year’s promotion though need not any applications, the top up and win deal will give anyone who is a Digicel customer the chance to win any of the prizes.
