Samoa international James Johnston leaves Wasps after injury-hit spell

Wasps have announced that Samoa international prop James Johnston has left the club to 'pursue alternative options'.

Johnston suffered an injury while with Samoa during the build-up to last year's World Cup.

And Wasps say that subsequent injuries meant the 29-year-old was unable to train fully or play a first-team game during his five months with the club.

'It is unfortunate that James has not been able to train regularly since joining the club, as we were really looking forward to seeing the impact he could make in a Wasps shirt,' Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said.

'Unfortunately for both parties, this couldn't happen, and he leaves with our very best wishes for his next steps.'

Johnston had also previously played for Harlequins and Saracens.
