Samoa Sevens Coach remains positive

"We performed a little better although we are still striving for consistency. I was very pleased that we beat England with only 10 players available and won our last 2 games with only 9 players," said coach Damien McGrath.

"We are a fast improving team who are developing all the time. If we stay fit we will be hard to stop," he added.

Coach McGrath spoke with Loop Samoa in an exclusive interview, where he says some injuries have really hurt the team.

"Our injuries are to Samoa Toloa, Jay Saena and Falemiga Selesele.

"Our injury worries are our main concern as we prepare for another tough pool," he said.

Fiji however is the biggest concern for Samoa, as they are the favorites in the tournaments.

Samoan playmakers like the skillsets Phoenix Hanapo-Nofoa and Jay Saena are equipped with were stand outs during the Wellington Tournament.

Questions arise though of maybe letting these playmakers utilize their skillsets in the field more.

"The thing about modern 7's is it's very tactical we have to maneuver the opposition into positions to utilize our steppers. We have to mix our game to be competitive. The team is finding its own balance," said coach McGrath.

"Fiji is everyone's favorites in our group. I am so pleased that our supporters are patiently supporting our improving team. The players appreciate all the support they receive," he added.
