Samoa takes precautions following reports of tropical disturbance

Reports of another tropical depression close to Samoa has led to some local businesses taking precautions beforehand.

The Meteorology division for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has advised the country that a tropical depression is forming to the far east of the country.

However, Luteru Tauvale Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Met office in Mulinu'u said it that it has only developed into a tropical depression.

"Weather models are not perfect, that’s the nature of weather models. So at this stage, I think it’s too early to say that it's going to form into a cyclone," he said.

"It takes some time for the system to gain some energy before slowly developing."

The MET office is saying the tropical depression close to Samoa is currently under watch by the station.

Tauvale said by Wednesday they will be able to determine how far it can develop.

While Cyclone Ula did not affect Samoa directly, its ripples were felt by the country following heavy rainfall, and flooding across town.

For now, local shops and homes are only advised by the MET office to await further notice until they can declare any next move, but by the looks of things, some are not waiting for further instructions and are already preparing by putting up shutters.
