Samoan products eyed for export to Thailand

Executives of Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters (SAME), will travel to Thailand to explore possible exports of Samoan products to the south-east Asian country.

Exploring overseas markets are usually governmental roles as they have the resources and the connections needed for such, however with this particular growth, Thailand’s Ambassador to the South Pacific, Maris Sangiampongsa says it’s not enough.

“With these particular types of connections, government to government is not enough, we’re now moving towards the engine of growth, which the private sector are the this engine,” he said.

“Without private sector collaboration, we cannot move the country forward, so the government levels will transform our roles and duty to facilitation while the private sectors do business together in order to promote growth and progress,” he added.

SAME president,Togoloa Eddie Wilson says with that in mind and the establishment of a network wider than just between governments will mean more communication and bigger trade opportunities.

“One of the key areas we are looking at is technical know-how, technology transfer. Thailand is a big place and they started from their agriculture and that’s the focus so we’re going to meet with them again in Thailand to discuss which markets suit us best and what they want from us,” he said.
