Victim support group appeals to public for funds

Samoa Victim Support Group has launched a radiothon to raise much needed funds for its operations.

SVSG board member, Mulipola Anarosa Molioo is appealing for support from the public.

"Since the establishment of SVSG more than 10 years ago, the number of victims has grown much greater than ever, and with the more cases and victims coming in, the more funds we need," said Mulipola.

"SVSG usually runs on $800,000 Tala a year and that may sound like a lot for many. But it’s a costly devotion to ensuring the abused and unfortunate are getting the treatment they need," said Mulipola.

"The house of Hope in Tuanaimato has almost 100 children in it, and the maintenance and food supply of those living there are quite hard to find. It’s the sponsors and support of those who keep giving just for these children that has gotten us this far," she added.

"Not only is it for the children, but SVSG also pushes the court appearances for all the cases we deal with that get taken to court," she said.

Since SVSG's establishment, domestic violence and abuse has become visible and the voices of victims are being heard.

"We thank Digicel, and the private donors and all those from overseas. They kept things alive for SVSG, but with the continued rise in domestic abuse reports coming in to the office, it’s becoming harder to provide," added Mulipola.

The radiothon appeal by SVSG has been sent to its branches in Australia and American Samoa.

Members of the public can contact their offices to make donations.
