Youth allegedly murdered during drinking party

Police in Samoa have apprehended a 42 year old man who allegedly killed a younger man after a dispute last Friday night.

Police spokesperson Inspector Maotaoalii Kaioneta Aliisolia says the incident occurred during a drinking party involving a group of men at Faleata.

Reports indicate the accused and the 20 year old victim had an argument and the accused went to his car.

“The accused turned on the car and he ran over the deceased killing him,” said Maota.

“We have yet to discover why the dispute happened in the first place. But it is obvious that most of the murder cases we have piling up are related to alcohol or a person under its influence,” he said.

This comes just a week after another senseless alleged murder of a young man from Faleula Uta.

Maota confirmed the accused in that case has been presented in court.

A man was allegedly shot to death at Faleula Uta when he went to intervene in a situation between the accused and two other men.

The group of men were also in a drinking party when the incident took place.

Police are appealing to the public not to indulge in overconsumption of alcohol as this could lead to an unfortunate turn of events.

The accused will appear in court on 18 July.
