Samoa’s Don Opeloge holds new world record at IWF

Don Opeloge broke the overall World Youth Record of 342kg at the IWF Junior World Championship underway in Suva, Fiji, last night (Tuesday).

The 20 year-old is the new record holder after he scooped two gold medals.

Opeloge came in sixth place in the “snatch” category, lifting 151kg, but, came back strong in the “clean & jerk” category with 198kg, breaking the World Youth Standard Record of 191kg.

He lifted a total of 349kg.

Mohammed Hosseini of Iran came in second after lifting a total of 348kg.

The 19 year-old, in the “snatch” category broke the World Youth Standard Record of 155kg, he lifted 157kg. He came in third place in the “clean & jerk” category, lifting 191kg.

Adamus Bartlomiej Stefan of Poland took bronze home, after lifting an overall 346kg. Adamus came in fifth place in the “snatch” category lifting 154kg, and

192kg in the “clean & jerk” category also beating the World Standard Record which was set at 191kg.

The IWF Junior World Championship is underway at the National Gymnasium in Suva.
