Mexico takes lead at half-time

Mexico has taken lead, 2-0, over Venezuela at half-time in their last Group D match of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup.

The match is underway at the Bava Park in Port Moresby.

Mexico's forward, Kiana Palacios, scored a double to help her team take lead.

Mexico dominated the second half, having more ball possession.

The girls in green and white made 11 attempts, having three on target and four off target.

Palacios' first goal, four minutes into the game, was a superb header taken off a corner kick straight into the net, surprising Venezuela goal keeper Franyely Rodriguez.

The Mexican number nine's second goal in this match, and her third in the overall tournament, came in at the 10th minute to extend the lead 2-0.

Palacios made a clear sweep from the right straight past goal keeper Rodriguez.

Mexico's strong defence allowed Venezuela to make only one attempt, which was off target.

Mexico held on until the final whistle blew at half-time.
