Uber 'discriminates on gender and race'

Black riders faced longer wait times and more frequent cancellations than white riders, the research indicates.

Women were more likely to be overcharged or taken on elongated routes, it says.

Researchers took nearly 1,500 rides in Seattle and Boston, gathering data from three taxi-hailing companies.

The two-year study was conducted by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford and the University of Washington.

Australian rugby player posts several racist Instagram pictures

Natoli, who has played for Manly Marlins and French club Bordeaux Begles, put a photo on Instagram of himself dressed as Aboriginal man holding a bottle of petrol and a spear.

The photo had the caption: "Every now and then you just need to culturally enrich yourself and get in touch with the dreamtime."

Further research into Natoli's Instagram found several more racial posts.

Natoli apologised via Instagram on Tuesday for dressing up as an Aboriginal but is yet to comment on the other discovered posts.

Harry Potter star says Hollywood racist

He told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme the film world was seen as "very, very progressive", but was "lagging behind" industries in encouraging diversity.

Radcliffe also said it was hard for gay actors to come out for fear of being typecast in gay roles.

And he stated that he did not want to play Potter again "at this point".

The 27-year-old British actor has starred as JK Rowling's child wizard in several films since 2001.

Aboriginal mum posts daughter's 'whiteface' photos

Last week a young boy in Perth attended a school event with his skin painted black in tribute to his idol, Australian Rules player Nic Naitanui.

The incident sparked furious discussion on social media.

Bec Bee, who is of Aboriginal descent, said there were "double standards" inflaming racial debates in Australia.

"I didn't see blackface," she told the BBC. "I saw a young fella who was proud to emulate his idol. There was no intent of racism."

Nic Naitanui calls for education after child's blackface tribute

The mother had intended for her son to look like his idol, AFL player Nic Naitanui, for his school's book week.

But her Facebook post caused a huge outcry from those who saw it as racist.

In a measured statement, the player said the boy's attempt to emulate his hero "hurts my heart".

The Australian Football League player, who plays for West Coast Eagles, said children were "unaware of the painful significance" of blackface.

'Racist' Australian commentators offered help

The apparently poor and insensitve commentary prompted New Zealand's Pacific Islands Media Association (PIMA), an association of Pasifika media owners and operators, to lodge a complaint with the broadcaster, Australia's Fox Sports.

Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu: Racism in rugby and school

Speaking to Nine to Noon today, Fuimaono-Sapolu said he had always sought out shocking opinions while at school - and he has prompted quite a lot of controversy himself.

The 35-year-old has finished with top tier rugby after a career playing for the Auckland Blues, Manu Samoa, Japan and the English teams Bath and Gloucester.

As a student at Auckland Grammar, he won best all-rounder for the school's first XV rugby team, which kicked off his international rugby career.
