Samoan man found guilty of attempting to kill his defacto partner

The verdict was delivered by a five-member jury after a six-day trial which ended with a visit by the presiding judge, the jurors and lawyers to the crime scene.

The defendant has also been found guilty of one count each of possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of an unregistered firearm.

The 12-gauge pump action shot gun was used by the defendant to commit the offence which was the result of a domestic dispute.

During the trial the prosecution told the court the defendant shot her when she wanted to end their relationship.

Man found with $550k worth of ice in underwear, police allege

The 32-year-old was arrested shortly after 8:00am on Sunday at Hobart Airport, after a routine inspection by a drug detection dog of passengers arriving on a Sydney flight.

Police said two officers were present when passengers were screened.

The man was subsequently searched and police allege 522 grams of ice were found in a package concealed in his underwear.

Police have charged the man with one count of unlawfully importing a controlled substance and one count of trafficking in a controlled substance.
