The 30-year-old met with the SRU High Performance Unit Integrity Committee at the weekend, after being sent home from the World Series tournament in London.
The two test Manu Samoa international was found to have breached his contract on the evening of May 26, prior to the Manu sevens team's departure for the UK.
The committee has suspended Tupou from all playing for two weeks, on top of him being stood down from the World Series tournaments in London and Paris.
He will also undergo counselling as part of his rehabilitation.
