HRPP confident of its achievements

The Human Rights Protection Party has launched its manifesto ahead of general elections in Samoa next week.

The caretaker Prime Minister and leader of HRPP, Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi said he is proud of the political party's achievements during its reign in power.

"Before we get to the manifesto or plans HRPP has for Samoa, we would like to remind you of the incredible changes this political party has brought into Samoa since it came into power in 1982," he stated.

"And more recently the many international meetings and events the government has brought in to expose Samoa to the outside world," Tuilaepa added.

The caretaker PM went on to talk about the big Manu Samoa and All Blacks clash, as well as the Small island Developing states conference hosted by Samoa in late 2014.

"We have hosted even the Commonwealth Youth Games, when we won the bidding," he said.

The manifesto launched by HRPP focused on ten main points of development that the caretaker PM said are crucial in the fast development of Samoa as a least developed country after sliding up a notch from a developing state.

"Health and education go hand in hand. If you are well educated but are incapable of working, you’re useless.

"Same if you are healthy but are not well educated, you’ll just be like the many who roam the town, useless," he added.

"So if HRPP is back in power, our focus is to educate our youth, in proper education, as well as raise the standard of teachers in Samoa," he said.

Other than Education and Health, Tuilaepa highlighted the focus on pushing for employment opportunities, by establishing a wider connection and network for the Recognised Seasonal Workers scheme and apprenticeship initiatives.

Reinforcing the push for farming and agriculture dependency, by education and proper management and pest control.

Continuing the works on infrastructure development, such as the two bridges that have been in desperate need of attention in Maliolio in Savaii and the Vaisigano bridge that were damaged during cyclone Evan.

"Youth development through focus groups and youth empowerment are well a part of the HRPP's push, and will continue to be a very important aspect of ensuring they have a part to play in the decisions we make," he added.

Community development, climate change and Justice are as well a part of the political party's focus.

Pushing better management of the justice system through court monitoring and accountability, as well as securing assistance in Samoa's fight against climate change.

"This party has been in power for over 30 years, and nothing has been left since, we’ve gone from the hunger we were and have never been hungry ever since," Tuilaepa concluded.
