SAME Opens Market for Samoa Food and Beverage Products in Japan

Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters or SAME continues to seek markets for Samoan products to be exported.

A delegation from an American-Japanese exporter company led by the grand-daughter of the late Tofilau Eti Alesana, former Prime Minister of Samoa, met with SAME to explore the possibility of sourcing Samoan products that can be sold in Japan.

“We’re very happy with the outcome. They were very happy with the showcase of products, coconut, cocoa, chocolate, coconut oil, and we’re also encouraging the push for Vailima Beverage, Taula because they showed interest in them,” said SAME CEO Tagaloa Eddie Wilson.

“There is big potential and we’re encouraging them to also look at other products, value added products not just food and beverages,” he added.

The delegation is from a company that exports these products to Japan and has shown interest in seeing what Samoa has to offer.

SAME has been the middle man for creating markets overseas for most small businesses in Samoa. This is only a small part of their ongoing efforts in facilitating and creating marketable products and promotion to push the export numbers to a stable amount for Samoa.

While the target was mostly for food products, Wilson and the team are trying a method to include some of Samoa’s finest of crafts and other native products for overseas sale such as handicrafts, clothing lines and even fabric designs.
