Husband of Vietnamese woman caught with drugs in Samoa identified

The Department of Homeland Security (DOH) in American Samoa has tracked down the husband of the Vietnamese woman who was arrested in Samoa over the weekend for possession of illegal drugs.

Director of Homeland Security Samana Semo Veavea says the man and his wife work on a farm in Leone and have lived in the territory for a few years. They have a local sponsor whom Homeland Security is questioning.

Samana says their investigations reveal that the husband traveled from Samoa on Sunday with the counter medication which were confiscated by the Department of Health because they did not have English labelling.

These were Panadol tablets and eye drops.

Homeland Security has not been able to establish if the husband traveled with the woman from Singapore to Samoa via Fiji.

Samana told KHJ News they have to find out from DOH what their protocol is for drugs that are confiscated and whether any are tested.

The woman arrived at Faleolo Airport on Sunday Samoa time and was found to be carrying pills that tested positive for cocaine and heroin.

She was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics and will appear in court on Monday Samoa time....
