The Samoans were thrashed 67-3 in their first match against New Zealand but put in a better showing against Australia, losing 39-18.
Head coach Etimani Faamoetauloa says those games proved too tough for his players but they tried their best.
He says they are getting better but still need to take it up another few levels.
