Royal Family honours duke's 'humour and humanity'

The Dean of Windsor paid tribute to Prince Philip's "kindness, humour and humanity" during the ceremony.

The congregation wore masks and was socially distanced in line with Covid rules, with the Queen seated alone.

The duke's children walked behind his coffin in a funeral procession, followed by a national minute's silence.

More than 730 members of the armed forces took part in the event, but there was a limit of 30 mourners inside St George's Chapel, under coronavirus rules.

Prince Philip died at Windsor Castle on Friday 9 April, aged 99.

PNG’s Wewak welcomes late Sir Michael Somare casket

East Sepik Governor Allan Bird led the delegation of provincial and national leaders, in receiving the casket of the late founding father.

Outside the airport carpark hundreds gathered to witness this momentous occasion. 

The people of Sepik cried as the ADF C27 aircraft landed and casket was carried out. 

A guard of honor was carried out by the PNG Defense Force.

Prime Minister James Marape, who travelled to Wewak aboard the Q400 aircraft, handed over casket of the late Grand Chief, to Governor Bird.

Prof Stephen Hawking Cambridge funeral to take place

Prof Hawking, who had motor neurone disease, died on 14 March, aged 76, at his home in the city.

Up to 500 invited family, friends and colleagues are expected at the private service being held at the university church, Great St Mary's, at 14:00.

Prof Hawking's ashes will be interred next to the grave of Sir Isaac Newton at Westminster Abbey in June.

Although the professor's funeral is private, crowds are expected to gather outside Great St Mary's in the centre of Cambridge to witness the arrival of the funeral cortege on Saturday afternoon.

Samoan baby abandoned in Auckland to be buried Saturday

The baby, found in Mangere, died last year on November 24, wrapped in a t-shirt with the words "Samoan Culture our pride and joy."

Police and coroner efforts to locate the baby's parents have been unsuccessful.

The local MP for Mangere, Aupito William Sio, said that the baby was given the name Mona and she would be given a proper burial this weekend.

​Daughter pays tribute to late Dr Rongap Snr

In a moving funeral service, late Doctor Alphonse Rongap Snr's daughter, Dr Violet Rongap, said her dad was a simple and down-to-earth doctor who respected all he knew.

She said many of his studies and courses he took and the profession he had gone through were all for his children.

"What he gained during his training whilst serving respective hospitals in the country were for the betterment of the children.

"And through this, he had a lot of friends. He was so simple and humble,” she said through tear-filled eyes.

Finally, she spotted the man she'd been waiting for. She stepped out of her car, and her husband put his hands on his head in horror.

"Is it my eyes?" she recalled him saying. "Is it a ghost?"

"Surprise! I'm still alive!" she replied.
