Medals galore at Arafura Games for Samoan weightlifting team

According to Samoa Weightlifting Association, a total of six Commonwealth and ten Oceania records were set by the weightlifters.

Petunu (Dan) Opeloge won the gold medal in the 89kg and the 102kg men’s division and established a new Oceania Senior Record with a 195kg Clean and Jerk.

Vaipava Nevo Ioane settled for the silver Medal in the 67kg men’s division and set a new Oceania senior record.

Ioane won the gold medal in the 67kg men’s division.

Team Fiji soars high in Abu Dhabi

Team Fiji won 17 medals – 7 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Fiji has definitely seen much more than a group of 21 young determined people. We have seen a team of over performers who have welled our hearts with pride and admiration.

But after a final day flourish that included gold medals for Sanele Mao and Feagaiga Stowers, and a silver from Lauititi Lui he said "four out of six ain't bad".

"I know it was a drama with Lauititi's knee but we're thankful that it has ended with some results, some medals. We were aiming for medals and I think we were too much aiming for gold medals - and we sort of forgot along the line that we needed to secure the medals - but I can't deny that these guys have really put in a great effort.
